A thirteen story temple that looks like a wedding cake! Each floor has a different deity. Here’s looking up from the 9th floor.

The Beatles placed Rishikesh on the map and ever since then many have flocked to “their” ashram, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Its been closed since 1997 but 100 rupees will get two people in! We met a sadhu who was happy to show us around (for a tip).

Walking through the grounds you can easily see through the forest’s overgrowth and imagine how amazing this ashram must have been. Some quarters included a mediation room or pod on the rooftops.

Just about everywhere you look there’s a view of Rishikesh.

The man responsible for creating this ashram was known for leading the Transcendental Meditation Movement (TM). He moved to Holland in 1992 and in 2008 announced his retirement and went into silence. He died three weeks later.
